Background

Howard Bruno is a civil litigator based in San Diego, California. He represents businesses and individuals in commercial disputes, contract litigation, real estate matters, and a range of complex civil cases throughout California state and federal courts.

Howard graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2019. He began his career at Latham & Watkins LLP in New York — one of the world's leading litigation practices — where he received the deep, methodical training that has shaped how he approaches every case: thorough preparation, careful writing, and a relentless focus on the facts.

After several years building his foundation in high-stakes commercial litigation, Howard returned west to open his own practice. The move was deliberate. He wanted to bring the rigor of a large-firm litigation team to clients who otherwise might not have access to it — while staying close enough to the work to know every fact of every file.

Approach

Howard's view is that litigation is a tool, not a destination. The job of a litigator is first to understand what a client actually needs — not what the dispute superficially calls for — and then to choose the path most likely to get them there. Sometimes that means filing first and fighting hard. Sometimes it means a one-page letter that ends the matter before it begins.

What every client gets, regardless of strategy, is the same thing: a lawyer who reads the documents, knows the law, and tells them the truth about where they stand.
